Swinging Fore a Cure with American Cancer Society
A household name with over 100 years researching and preventing one of the nation’s largest health concerns, American Cancer Society is on a mission to free the world of the disease.
ACS raises research funds through a variety of planned giving, in-kind gifts and donations, and community-based events. One such distinguished event is the Swing Fore a Cure golf tournament, established in 2008 and hosted at Ballyhack Golf Club since 2015.
The benefit, held August 8 – 9, 2021, offered a Sunday reception with live and silent auctions at Ballyhack’s clubhouse and a Monday morning tournament with awards. Donors mingled with PGA Tour player and Dormie Network Ambassador Lanto Griffin, former Virginia Tech head football coach Frank Beamer, and current head VT men’s basketball coach Mike Young.
The event offered multiple opportunities to sample the Dormie experience beyond the tournament, with stay-and-play packages and a one-year membership package as auction items. “Our donors appreciate having high-value items [like these] to bid on, and they enjoy the exclusivity of the experience at a Dormie Network course,” said Amanda Darling-Thompson, Director of Development for ACS’s Southeast Region.
“The level of care and service they provide is unparalleled to anything I've seen, and I've been in the fundraising space for 15 years,” Amanda shared. “Not only has the partnership with Dormie and the Foundation been beneficial, but Ballyhack’s GM [Ian Sikes] has become a true partner in making this event happen year after year.”
Funds raised at Swing Fore a Cure directly support ACS’s research efforts and local patient programs such as the 24/7 cancer helpline, lodging during treatment, transportation to treatment, and hair loss products.
