Event Recap: Ballyhack Member-Member
The 2021 Ballyhack Member-Member was held this this past weekend (April 30 – May 1) with 22 teams competing the field, split into 5 flights by combined handicap index totals. The event proper began on Friday morning with many practice rounds being completed despite some 50+mph winds that made conditions borderline impossible! In evidence of the difficulty in course conditions, the fun Goat Trak Par-3 tournament in the afternoon only yielded 2 skins! These were claimed by Shawn Potter on Hole #2, and Bryan Taylor on Hole #6. The festivities continued late into the evening preceding the opening cocktail reception as the players retreated to the putt-putt course under the lights on 18 green.
Thankfully, mother nature decided to cooperate on Saturday, as the wind subsided for the competition to begin in earnest and the field pegged it up for the first two of the varying 9-hole formats. Chef Robert and Sommelier Scotty ensured that the teams were well fed and watered at every turn with various seasonal offerings in addition to a magnificent gala dinner on Saturday evening.
Sunday saw the completion of the final two 9-hole formats to reveal the five flight winners and the three wildcard teams to compete in the tournament shootout. In typical fashion, the drama unfolded during the shootout as we slowly eliminated teams to showcase our final-hole-showdown between the teams of Jeff Sepesi and Jonathan Ferguson, and Paul McCabe and Jaime Montoya. Jeff and Jonathan emerged victorious after two fantastic shots navigated the tricky 18th with ease to set up a net birdie. Jaime and Paul rallied hard and almost holed out from the fairway, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
