Recap: Dormie Club Flagship Member-Guest

Dormie Club’s inaugural Flagship Member-Guest event, held October 20 – 23, invited 28 members and their guests to experience the network’s brand-new facility. 

The event kicked off Thursday with practice rounds, dinner, cocktail hour and player’s party, and night putting on the practice green.

With flights determined by combined team index, the field consisted of 28 teams in five flights, playing two rounds. The overall team champion was decided by a shootout of the five flight winners, with two wild card teams.

Round 1 began promptly at 9 a.m. Friday, and to being extra excitement and variety to the tournament, players shot in a separate 11-hole scramble Friday afternoon. Four-man teams played the scramble on member-favorite holes: 1 – 6 and 14 – 18. The main event picked back up Saturday morning with a shotgun start, giving players another chance to conquer the Coore & Crenshaw design. Shootout play dumped one team each at Holes 1, 2, 3, 17, and 18, but Steve Wallen and his guest Nick Luffman overcame a very tricky 25-foot putt on the third hole to stay alive, and two-putted on the 18th to win!

While the refurbished course and all-new facilities were the main draw, between rounds and after dinner, players were treated to various night games and a special Sunset Honor Jump to benefit Children of Fallen Heroes.

Network Chief Culinary Officer Tony Pope, Pastry Chef Allison Brown, and Executive Sous Chef Ryan Lund wowed with creative cuisine throughout: a whole stuffed hog roast, raw bar with crab and lobster served on a custom ice sculpture, wood-fired breakfast pizza, housemade berry breakfast tarts, Piedmontese steak and fixins, red velvet cake with chocolate-dipped strawberries, and house-recipe whoopie pies.
