Groundskeeping Goats: Meet Ballyhack’s four-legged employees

Ballyhack Golf Club is known for rugged terrain, dramatic elevation changes, gouged-out bunkers, scenic views, and the goats! The club’s four-legged African Boer employees—friends to staff, members, and guests alike—primarily feed on herbaceous plants around the property. They have, however, been known to steal lunches out of golf carts.

Raised to be friendly to humans, young goats are bottle-fed for socialization, and the entire herd is monitored daily by Sam, goat whisperer and veterinarian.

Ballyhack currently houses a comfortable number of eight Boer goats, and this spring selected a young buckling, Timmy, and a young lady, Amber, to continue growing the goat family. While on the course, the herd enjoys feeding on undesirable weeds such as briars and Johnson grass, and sunbathing on rocks and patios.

Next time you’re at the club, say hello to our furry friends, whose home base is located behind the cottages near the #12 green. They can’t wait to welcome you to Ballyhack, just like the rest of the team.
